The Referee

LeBeau: "Bitch."
Jenna: "Idiot."
Grim: "Guys, this is between Jack and Raina. Champions for the tournament will be chosen later."

Grim, drunk, in Raina's room: "He's gone from one leash to another."

Friday night was pretty quiet in the RP world. Yesterday was when the shit hit the fan.

First, Grim and Lue shared a moment, and Grim found out from Lue that he had given Kat a jade amulet to help protect her against his poison. Grim was pissed. Here he was, trying to overlook the fact that Kat was consorting with the enemy, to try and be friendly to her for Lue's sake; and here Lue gave her an amulet, while he had figure out a spell that would stop the poison. And one was already in existence. Lue said that Grim's spell worked better, so that made Grim feel better. Still...and Lue knew that Grim would take a while to really trust him. "I'm a serpent. We're patient."

Grim found LeBeau and took him aside. He told him that Raina was going to need comfort, and to be there for her. Then, while he and Shadow were talking, Raina came in, depressed, but resolved. Grim offered to make her some chicken, and while he did it, Jenna walked in. Grim then took Jenna aside and told her that Jack was going to need some comfort, and to be there for him. Jack walked in and went right to Jenna. Grim said nothing, going back to Raina.

Raina asked Grim to give Jack the divorce decree that she had done up, and Grim refused. So she went and did it herself, and then took off. Jack signed it. Grim offered his place, but knew he was all set with Jenna and her apartment. Then he took position at the grotto, and whenever someone signed on, he called them to the base. He then "used the hammer" as Oblique put it, and repeated, "Jack and Raina got a divorce. Raina took off. Jack is with Jenna. No, I don't know the details, ask them." Actually, he did, but he's not spreading gossip and getting his words twisted around. He also tried to tell everyone not to pass judgment until they got Jack's side of the story.

Of course, everyone who showed up went running to comfort Raina. Grim knew this was going to happen, so when Jack called him to tell him he wanted to talk to him, that was the first thing he said. Jack explained his side - Grim knew that things had been heading downhill for a while. Jenna was just the final catalyst. Grim then told Jack that he should just take time, that Grim would do what he could to try and get people to see Jack's side. He didn't want Jack to go to the base, knowing he really wasn't up to a confrontation. But Jenna pushed him, and he finally decided to go. Grim gave up, and, again, labeled Jack as pussy-whipped.

Grim went in with Jack and Jenna. Of course, LeBeau was there, and he went nuts. Grim stood in the middle, a spirit summoned, ready to hold him down. Raina told LeBeau to stand down, and he finally did. Then Jack spoke, saying he still wanted to be there for her, for the kits, and for the team. He said that Jenna didn't 'steal him away', that this was a long time coming. LeBeau and Jenna went at it for a bit, and Grim stepped between them, too. Raina told LeBeau to give them the key to the villa. Jenna refused, tossing it back. LeBeau threw it back at her, harder. She threw it back. Grim commented, "Badminton anyone?" Raina said had she offered to make them happy and they were refusing it. Finally Jack and Jenna left.

Grim grabbed a bottle of J.D. and started drinking. You know things are bad when he starts drinking, and you also know he's going to get pretty drunk pretty fast. He went to the fire, and saw Raina crying on Mareo's shoulder. Raina asked for probes to keep the alcohol from the kits, and asked Grim for one swallow. He gave her the bottle. She drank it, "to take the edge off." She went to the kits to put them to sleep, and LeBeau apologized for his behavior. Grim said that Jenna was out of line in some spots, too, and he really couldn't apologize for her. "In fact, I won't.  But don't solve this in here.  Out there, anything goes."  LeBeau agrees. Again, he told her to go to Raina. Grim also admitted that he wants to stay in the middle, that he doesn't want to favor one side over the other, he wants to hear all sides. He wants to be available for both of them. But he won't be a messenger boy.

He heads to Raina's room, and when he doesn't get anyone's attention from across the hall, he throws a rock through the window. "I'll fix it!" he says, and yes, he's already drunk. He goes in, fixes the window - it seals as a different color because, yes, he's drunk - and sits down. Raina brings up beating up the Sealers, and Grim begs that they just nuke them all. LeBeau, meanwhile, is hovering so close to Raina that if he could climb in her clothes, he would. Grim knew that was going to happen. He's at the point where he's sick of the whole thing, and wants to concentrate on Lue and keeping the team calm and together. He offered to take leader, but Raina said, "I have a lot of support here," which Grim took as, "You'll never be leader."

Grim knew Lue was right - he was being used, but then, he offered himself.  Grim then knew that Jack and Jenna were pretty much alone at this point. He also knew that he was the only person to at least listen to Jack's side - if not take it - who was sitting in that room. And he was in no condition to argue being as drunk as he was. He was alone, too. Alone and unappreciated. In fact, Raina dismissed him and told him to go to sleep. With a pang of hurt, dampened by the alcohol, he left.
